Senior
East Lansing, Michigan-Justin Grill, M.H.A., D.O., of Coopersville, was
named the 2007 Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) Outstanding Graduating
Senior at the commencement ceremony of the Michigan State University College
of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) on May 4, 2007. The award is given to the
MSUCOM graduate who best demonstrates academic excellence, professional
involvement, public service and student leadership during his or her medical
school career. On May 9, Dr. Grill was also recognized before his
osteopathic colleagues at the MOA House of Delegates meeting held in
conjunction with the 108th Annual Postgraduate Convention & Scientific
Seminar in Dearborn.
"It is an honor to be selected for this award," said Dr. Grill. "All of my
classmates and I have accomplished a tremendous amount of work in the past
four years. My medical education at MSUCOM provided me with a considerable
knowledge base, helped me form my bedside manner and taught me the value of
community involvement for physicians."
"Dr. Grill was chosen for this award because of his impressive
accomplishments and his exceptional sense of balance, which will serve him
well in his professional career," said 2006-07 MOA President Dr. John
Bodell. "Academically, his exam scores placed him in the top 10 percent of
osteopathic medical students in the country; professionally, he served on
three MOA committees; socially, he dedicated his time and skills to health
fairs and clinics, Habitat for Humanity and the Special Olympics, among
other causes; and he also set personal goals to never neglect his family,
all while earning his osteopathic medical degree."
While at MSUCOM, Dr. Grill received the Stefan H. Kobiljak Scholarship; he
was nominated for Peer Mentor of the Year and Student D.O. of the Year; he
was elected President of Sigma Sigma Phi, Iota Chapter, Osteopathic Honor
Fraternity; he received an MSUCOM Community Integrated Medicine Student
Association Community Service Award; and he completed a Master of Healthcare
Administration degree through the A.T. Still University of Health Sciences
School of Health Management, Kirksville, Missouri. Dr. Grill earned his
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees with honors in 2002 from
Calvin College in Grand Rapids.
Dr. Grill will begin his family practice internship at Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon in July.
