January 16, 2006 - Mercy Health Partners recently elected its new members to the 2006 term of its Board of Trustees. Dr. Douglas Zwemer was added to the roster as the new Chief of Staff at MHP. Dr. Zwemer brings a significant amount of knowledge of MHP to his new role on the Board as well as a leader within the medical staff. Sister Joy O’Grady was also elected to the Board. Sr O’Grady is the President of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s College in South Bend Indiana and as prior experience serving on other hospital boards within the Trinity Health system.

Officers from the 2005 Board remain the same for 2006 and positions include Bruce Fox, Chair, (President, Comerica Bank, West Michigan), Mark Fazakerley, Vice Chair, (Co-owner Eagle Alloy), Mike Gluhanich, Treasurer and Dr. Mark Meengs as Secretary.

At the December meeting, the MHP Board gave high praise to Dr. Paul Chovaz former Chief of Staff at MHP and Sister Myra Bergman from St. Mary’s Health Care who faithfully served in these volunteer Trustee positions. Both of these individuals were instrumental for implementing change during their respected time on the Board.

Trinity Health, the parent company of MHP sets the policies and guidelines for the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees function is to manage and regulate the affairs and business of MHP adopted by the Board of Directors of Trinity Health. Trustees serve a three-year term or as determined by Trinity Health in order to achieve continuity in Board composition. Typically, the Board of Trustees meets on a monthly basis and annually for the appointment of officers.
