October is Internet Safety Awareness
Month
We spend a great deal of time as parents and educators trying
to keep our children safe, by teaching them about “stranger
danger.” What we have failed to recognize is that every
time our kids are on the computer and have access to the Internet,
we are willingly allowing “strangers” to enter
our homes and their lives. We are living in a computer age.
We have computers at work, in the libraries, in schools, and
most of us have them in our homes. We as a community need
to become aware of and learn to recognize the danger our children
face to becoming victims of online predators every time they
are on the Internet.
“Keeping Children Safe From Online “Strangers”
is a free presentation for all parents, teachers, and other
adults that would like to learn more about keeping children
safe while using the Internet. For information regarding the
upcoming lectures, please call Linda Dunmore at (231) 672-3038.
