MHP Hosts Movie Night at Muskegon Heights
High School
Attendees will view the movie “Crash” in
honor of Black History Month
Mercy Health Partners (MHP)
and Muskegon Heights High School are teaming up to host a
special viewing of the movie “Crash.” The viewing
will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
in the Muskegon Heights High School Auditorium.
“Crash” was released in 2004 and was directed
by Paul Haggis. This movie was selected for its depiction
of characters from different racial backgrounds and how they
interact with one another. It brings out many of the cultural
stereotypes that exist in our society today. It shows how
we often harbor our own prejudices and reminds us that our
perceptions can greatly differ from reality.
Afterwards, Wayne Boatwright, Chief Diversity Officer at
MHP, will lead a conversation about the issues the movie
brings to light. The goal is to help raise awareness of others,
while honoring the similarities we share and building respect
for the things that make us all different.
Several parts of the movie may be unsuitable for young children.
For this reason, childcare will be provided during the viewing.
Storyteller James Williamson will entertain the children.
This event is being held as part of MHP’s activities
to celebrate Black History Month. The event is open to the
public and is free of charge. Media are welcome to attend.
For more information about the event, please contact Kelly Kurburski at 231-672-4885.
