Patient Condition Reports
Mercy Health Partners respects the privacy of Protected
Health Information (PHI) for all patients. At times, patient condition
information is released for media purposes.
Patient conditions are released to the media only when the patient
has been involved in a public accident or incident and the patient
is asked for by name. The patient must not have objected to being
included in the facility directory. This would include a vehicle
accident in which the police make a report, or a disaster.
Patient conditions are stated according to the American Hospital
Association patient description. These words include:
Undetermined - The patient is awaiting physician assessment.
Good - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. The patient
is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
Fair - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. The patient
is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
Serious - Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits.
The patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
Critical - Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits.
The patient maybe unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
The term stable does not describe a condition and is not used alone
or in combination with other conditions.
You must give the patient's full name to receive patient condition
information.
