Muskegon Nurses Care
In Spring 2008, 800 Mercy Health Partners' nurses joined forces and made the commitment to building a home from the ground up for a family in need along the lakeshore. We call ourselves "Muskegon Nurses Care" and we have partnered with Muskegon County Habitat for Humanity for this project. Over the next several months, we will dedicate hundreds of hours of service and raise $40,000 to complete the home by the end of the year.
This summer, we were introduced to our homeowner, Devett Moore. Devett is a single mother with rheumatoid arthritis and who has been dreaming of her own home for some time. When our nurses learned that Devett has been on a waiting list of a local community college to become a nurse, we all wept.
We broke ground in July 2008 and began construction in August. We have raised nearly 50% of the $40,000 needed to compete the project and we have a number of fundraisers lined up.
Anyone can volunteer to on the house on Tuesdays and Saturdays. To volunteer, go to http://www.volunteerup.com/Login.asp?w=i&o=111 and complete the registration information. Please note that you will not be called by Habitat or Muskegon Nurses Care to confirm your volunteer time. Once you've registered, all you need to do is show up at the site at 2147 Seventh Street in Muskegon.
