Diabetic Foot Care
We offer thorough and effective treatments for patients suffering
from diabetic related foot and circulatory problems. Using specialized
techniques we provide sandals, shoes, inserts, prosthetic toe fillers
and bracing options for weight bearing and non-weight bearing patients.
Diabetic shoes and braces are an effective treatment option, removing
weight from an ulcer area, while evenly distributing pressure on the
entire sole of the foot. These devices are lightweight and can be custom
fabricated and/or modified to meet patient weight, gait, and diabetic
needs. Additionally, these devices can be adjusted throughout the
healing process to increase effectiveness and patient mobility.
Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Bill
In many cases, therapeutic shoes are covered by insurance. Specifically,
Medicare patients are eligible for therapeutic shoes under the Medicare
Therapeutic Shoe Bill. This Bill states that Medicare patients suffering
from Diabetes Mellitus and one or more of the following associated
diabetic problems, qualify for one pair of therapeutic shoes and
three pair of multi-density inserts per calendar year:
- History of foot amputation, partial or complete.
- History of previous foot ulceration.
- History of pre-ulcerative callus.
- Peripheral neuropathy and callus formation.
- Foot deformity.
The Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Bill requires a written prescription
from a podiatrist or a qualified physician. For more information
on this Bill, or to see if you qualify please call (231) 672-4886.
Prosthetics
Prosthetic devices (artificial limbs) help return mobility and function
to patients after amputation. At Mercy Health Partners,
we provide all types of prosthetic devices, including arm and leg
prostheses.
Prosthetic practitioners, in collaboration with physicians and
physical therapists, provide a clinical pathway for amputee services;
guiding and supporting patients through the process of physical
healing, wearing and ambulating using an artifial limb. Contact
often begins even before the amputation, continuing from the hospital
bedside, hospital rehabilitation stay and ongoing for many years
as patients’ changing needs are met.
Our Prosthetists select state-of-the-artmaterials that are durable,
safe and comfortable for our patients. A commitment to excellence
involves not only provision of prosthetic devices, but also continuum
of care and patient education; leading to the higheat level of ambulatory
status. Mercy Health Partners commitment to excellence helps
return amputees to active, healthy lifestyles!
Post Mastectomy Services
Post mastectomy services are available for patients that have undergone
breast surgery. Here, certified breast form fitters listen carefully
to the patients needs, and guide them in selecting a breast form
product that fits their lifestyle and activity level. A breast form
is worn outside the body (not an implant) and looks and feels like
a real breast.
Wearing a breast form is a comfortable and natural looking way
to restore balance and symmetry. Forms are available in a variety
of shapes, sizes and colors to accommodate various body types, breast
shapes and surgeries. There are traditional styles, as well as distinctive
collections to meet special needs. We also offer a variety of post
mastectomy bras and post-mastectomy camisoles.
For more information on breast forms or to schedule an appointment,
call (231) 672-4886.
