Pastoral Care

We pray that your stay here will be as pleasant as possible and that you will experience the healing power of God through the loving care of the entire staff.

Pastoral Visits
A chaplain is available 24 hours a day, every day. If you or your family wish to speak with one of our professionally trained staff, please notify the Pastoral Care Office. We will listen to you, pray with you, simply be with you, or do whatever we can to encourage you.

Communication with Churches
We encourage and facilitate communications between patients and their faith communities. If you wish specific clergy to be notified of your hospitalization, we will make every effort to do this for you. Every courtesy is extended to church representatives when they visit.

Advocacy and Advice
If you are uneasy about your treatment or if you are troubled by treatment choices, a chaplain can help you understand your options and clarify your decisions. We will uphold your rights, support your values and help you communicate with the medical staff.

Crisis Assistance
If you or your family experience trauma or distress while you are hospitalized, please ask your nurse to notify the on-call chaplain to provide prompt support and counsel.

Religious Services
Our chapels are ideal places for quiet prayer and medication. Located on the ground level next to the main lobby at both Oak and Sherman campuses, they are open to anyone at anytime. Sacramental ministry is available to patients who desire it. Communion is distributed daily to the Catholic patients. The Sacrament of the Sick (anointing) and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are available upon request. Sacraments are also available to Protestant patients upon request. If you desire to receive a sacrament, please ask your nurse to notify the Pastoral Care Office.

Grief Support
To help you through the grief process, the Pastoral Care Service of Mercy Health Partners offers grief consultation and sponsors grief support groups. We extend to you and your family a sincere invitation to call us for comfort and assistance during the difficult experience of loss.
